What is
Salem to Mongolia?

The Mongol Rally
During the summer of 2011, Bruce and Andrea, two happy Salem residents, participated in a 10,000 mile rally driving from London, England to Ulaanbataar, Mongolia. The goal of this rally was to raise money in order to support charity work with Mongolian families, orphans, and street children. The Mongol Rally is organized by a British group called The Adventurists, although once we left the UK, there was no support or help at all....we were on our own! We anticipated that the drive would take between 4-5 weeks...it ended up taking about 5 weeks!
Mode of Transportation
We drove a much needed wheelchair van to the land-locked country. Upon arrival the van was donated to a Mongolian Charity and used in Mongolia.
Money Business
So what about the money? We raised money for two different aspects of our adventure. First, we had amazing Sponsors help us get to Mongolia. This money went towards buying the vehicle that we was donated to Mongolia as well as other expenses we accrued on this trip such as transport of the vehicle to the UK, gas, lodging etc... Second, we asked for Donations for two wonderful charities, the Christina Noble Children's Foundation and Susan G. Komen for a Cure. You can take a look at our charities page to read more about these worthwhile causes. We raised about $2,500 for these charities.
